Interesting article in MIT Technology Review regarding efforts to connect separate VW domains, e.g., so your avatar can move freely from 1 environment (e.g., SL) to another (e.g., There) -- this will require common standards, but some big name players are on board.

Interesting work. It would be amazing if something like this works out for the internet users. However, the design for such an initiative will involve trust between the two different applications which will uncover a lot of security issues. Ever heard of cross-site forgery? I had read a brief description about it. As we already see XSS as a major threat in many applications, combine it with cross-site forgery and we may have a new set of threats surrounding such an initiative.
